DBTAG – Digital Building Telecommunications Access Guidelines

  • To plan, develop and draft a set of guidelines which would outline principles for digital building telecommunications access
  • To consult with building owners and technology service providers to ensure a level playing field was created
  • To create a competitive advantage for the City of Melbourne by developing a guideline that would attract and retain technology-hungry companies within Melbourne's commercial properties

solution

  • The Guidelines were drafted over an 18 month period via consultation with over 200 organisations and individuals
  • Developers within the Melbourne Docklands were involved in the practical implemention within the Guidelines within the development
  • The Digital River Group (www.digitalriver.net) was established to explore opportunities for bandwidth connectivity in Melbourne

outcomes

  • The Guideline was released in August 2002 and has been endorsed by the City of Melbourne and the State Government of Victoria.
  • Internet Architecture has applied the principles of the Guideline to over 12 developments nationally.
  • The Guideline is now considered as National best practice.
